Scott Tarter, the President and Manager of Twin Lakes Farm brought a live horse named Wendy to the barn. Accompanying Scott was Ian Tsukroff, a farrier for over 20 years. Scott and Ian taught us a great deal about horses, with particular emphasis on the care of the hoofs. Ian pulled the old horse shoes off of Wendy, then trimmed and reshaped the hoof. He then fitted Wendy with a new set of shoes. It was fascinating to watch and participate in the process. Ian also demonstrated the art of creating a horseshoe from scratch, one of which is now permanently fixed to the barn entrance.
WoW!!! Freaking amazing that a horse will be at Ben’s Barn …despite the fact that it’s perfectly natural to expect to see a horse in a barn… 🙂
Looking forward to it…. -Donato

It is very cool Don Vaccaro! There is a whole art and science to it. He is also basically a vet since he will take care of the hoof since it is all important to the life of a horse. He will administer to the hoof when he takes off the old shoe, and he never knows what he will find so he needs to be prepared for all ailments and situations. And then there is the whole metallurgy aspect to it all. Fascinating stuff, or at least to me it is. In the end everyone will get a horseshoe as a parting gift.
