Evan Goldenberg is the ultimate connoisseur. He shared his passion with us, told some great stories, and answered questions about the finer things in life. We discussed wine, scotch, cigars, clothing, architecture, and women. Evan made some great value recommendations (see comments) and even offerred to assist any of us with wine selection when we’re at a restaurant and are not sure what to order. The highlight of the evening was when Evan shared a bottle of 1970 Fonseca Port with all of us. How generous of him!

Barn Night Details
Barn Nights take place monthly, always on a Friday. The barn is located behind the house at 41 Deerfield. The doors open at 8pm, so feel free to come by, grab a beer and a slice of pizza, and socialize. The presentations start at 9pm and go for about an hour. Afterwards you can hang out and jam with or listen to the Barn Band. For the die hards there’s usually a “wrap up” at around midnight where we share our thoughts on the presentation and get into deep, controversial discussions. There’s a contribution box for you to drop in a minimum of $20 to help offset the cost of the event.

Dear Ben and the friends of Barn Night,
I just wanted to to thank everyone who attended Ben’s Barn Night. I was truly honored by the members who traveled near and far just to listen to my words of wisdom.
As promised, I have listed my recommendations as follows:
Value Red: Bodegas Juan Gil, $12-$15, case vs. bottle
Juan Gil is also 100% Monastrell from 45-year-old vines aged for 12 months in French and American oak. Purple-colored with an enticing bouquet of underbrush, cedar, plum, and blueberry, on the palate it is dense, sweetly-fruited, and concentrated. Drink this nicely balanced effort over the next 4-5 years.
Value White: Chablis – Chardonnay for those who may not know!
Oily, smoky and overtly crumbled chalk notes as well as an aura of ocean breeze in the nose of Picq’s generic 2008 Chablis contribute complexity to a refreshingly citric (lemon and grapefruit) as well as positively delicate palate to which notes of blond tobacco, iodine and lime zest add pungency. Handsomely lean, invigoratingly bright and irreversibly mineral, this should prove highly versatile over the coming 3-4 years.
Please let me know if I promised additional information…….
wait, I remember:
