Timothy Mooney of Symantec shared his insights on Internet Safety. His presentation made us aware of the extent to which our privacy and the personal information on our computers is in jeopardy. Tim told some interesting stories about security breeches affecting large corporations and even governments. He gave us practical advice for keeping our data as safe as possible. This event marked the end of 4 years (48 consecutive months) of barn nights.

Barn Night Details
Barn Nights take place monthly, always on a Friday. The barn is located behind the house at 41 Deerfield. The doors open at 8pm, so feel free to come by, grab a beer and a slice of pizza, and socialize. The presentations start at 9pm and go for about an hour. Afterwards you can hang out and jam with or listen to the Barn Band. For the die hards there’s usually a “wrap up” at around midnight where we share our thoughts on the presentation and get into deep, controversial discussions. There’s a contribution box for you to drop in a minimum of $20 to help offset the cost of the event.

Internet safety is an interesting topic but I’m more interested in finding out about home invasion security and basically how likely am I or anyone around me, from an actuarians standpoint, to becoming physically hurt and even deported for that matter by the things I do on the internet.
